Hi again,
another wee insight into the human behind Taiao Huru Huri if you happen to be interested....
Alongside my studies and work into ecology, community development, te ao māori and psychology, I have played bass and guitar in bands for more than 20 years, and expressing myself through music is both one of my favourite things to do with my time, and also an essential component of my general wellbeing.
While my musical offerings may seemingly have little do with the work of Taiao Huru Huri, it is hoped that the creative passion presented via the links below will demonstrate the passion and flair I bring to all projects I choose to engage with.
Brazealand - from 2008 - 2010 I was privileged to play bass alongside the phenomenally talented Brazileira Isabella Rovo in this effervescent Brazilian fusion band. The linked clip features Brazealand at our last concert before Isa returned to Brazil at Wellington's Botanical Gardens - such a wonderful summer evening it was...
Bella Cajon - following Isa's return to Brazil I was invited to play bass with popular Wellington band Bella Cajon, a role I technically still hold though gigs are seldom these days. During my time with Bella Cajon we recorded and released two albums and played countless shows throughout NZ. A nicely produced clip of our song Donde' Esta can be found here.
Subset - On my arrival in Gisborne in 2015 I quickly initiated the establishment of the 3-bass player 'Dark-Groove Cinematic Bass' experimental prog. ensemble Subset BC (that's a mouthful I know...). Subset has now been going strong for 7 years, and we are currently preparing to venture into the studio to record our first record - which should be available in early 2023. A creatively edited clip of our original tune 5innaHalf recorded live in the graden bar of Gisborne's beautiful Dome Cinema Bar can be found here and a longer (and earlier) clip of us performing at the legendary Smash Palace can be found here.
M45 - in 2022 I was asked by an old friend to contribute bass and general creative input to an exciting new project called M45. Our quartet is based across 3 cities and are currently working on our debut e.p. You can listen to our pre-production demos and provide feedback on the upcoming output here.
